Effective date: October 15, 2026
MyCoffeeSettings is a community for people who care about coffee: sharing grind settings, discovering roasters, and helping each other waste fewer beans. These guidelines apply to everything you post, including settings, notes, photos, forum posts, comments, profiles, and events. They are part of the MCS Terms of Service.
What MCS is for
Keep conversations centered on coffee: brewing, grind settings, beans and roasters, gear, cafes, events, and the craft around them. Light off-topic conversation is fine, but posts with no connection to coffee may be moved or removed.
Be respectful
Disagree about coffee all you want; do it without attacking people. Not allowed:
- harassment, bullying, insults, or repeatedly targeting someone;
- hate speech or content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or similar characteristics;
- threats of violence or encouraging others to harm someone; and
- mocking beginners. Everyone starts somewhere.
Keep it honest
The settings database only works if the data is real.
- Post settings you actually used, for the coffee and grinder you name.
- Do not post fake reviews, ratings, or settings, including to boost your own coffees or hurt someone else's.
- Do not manipulate votes, including through multiple accounts or by asking others to vote in exchange for anything.
- Do not impersonate another person, roaster, or business, or claim an affiliation or Official status you do not have.
- Do not post information you know is false or misleading.
Promotion and disclosure
Roasters, cafes, and other coffee businesses are welcome to share their coffees, releases, and events, as long as they are open about it.
- Disclose your connection. If you work for, own, or are paid by a business you mention, say so in the post (for example, "I roast for this company"). Official Roasters are identified by their checkmark.
- Contribute, do not just advertise. Promotional posts should be useful to the community and should not make up most of your activity.
- No spam. No repeated posting of the same content, unsolicited messages to users, or links unrelated to coffee.
- Sponsored content must be labeled as sponsored.
What is not allowed
In addition to the rules above, do not post or share:
- sexually explicit content, or any sexual content involving minors;
- graphic violence, or content that promotes self-harm;
- anything illegal, or content that promotes illegal activity;
- other people's private information, such as addresses, phone numbers, or private messages, without their permission;
- photos of identifiable people without their permission;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark (see the Copyright Policy below);
- malware, phishing links, or attempts to collect other users' login details; or
- sales of alcohol, drugs, weapons, or other regulated goods.
Languages
You may post in English, Spanish, or French. Posts in other languages may be removed because we cannot review them reliably.
At events
These guidelines also apply to how you treat others at events found through MCS. Organizers may set their own house rules. If something serious happens at an event, contact the organizer and, if needed, local authorities, and let us know at info@mycoffeesettings.com so we can act on the platform.
Reporting and blocking
We do not review every post before it appears, so we rely on you.
- Report anything that breaks these guidelines using the Report option on any post, comment, profile, coffee page, or event. Reports are confidential; the person you report is not told who reported them.
- Block any user to hide their content from you and stop them from contacting you.
- For urgent safety concerns, contact local authorities first, then email info@mycoffeesettings.com.
We review reports and act on them as quickly as we can. Reporting in bad faith, such as to silence someone you disagree with, is itself a violation.
Enforcement
When content breaks these guidelines, we may remove it, hide it, or remove a label such as Roaster Recommended. For the account behind it, we generally follow three steps:
- Warning. We remove the content and notify you of the rule it broke.
- Temporary suspension. A second violation suspends your account for 7 days. You can still log in to view and export your journal, but cannot post.
- Permanent ban. A further violation, or a pattern of abuse, closes the account.
Serious violations skip straight to a ban. These include threats of violence, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, doxxing, malware or phishing, and running fake accounts to manipulate the platform. For roasters, violations may also lead to loss of Official status, as described in the Roaster Terms.
Appeals. If you believe we made a mistake, email info@mycoffeesettings.com within 30 days of the action, with your username and what happened. A person will review the decision, and we will tell you the outcome.
